My Morning Routine!

While we’re all home in quarantine, it’s easy to let these days fly by in a blur! Especially during this crazy time, I’ve found that starting each day with a consistent morning routine is so important ~ It gives me time to prioritize myself and focus on starting my day on a positive note. Today I’m sharing my full morning routine with you! I stick to this every morning (and have for the past 3+ years) and it sets the tone for the rest of my day and gets me off to a healthy and balanced start!

Oil-Pulling Ritual

The first thing I do when I wake up (even before brushing my teeth!) is my oil pulling ritual. This is actually an ancient Ayurvedic holistic wellness practice that has been around for thousands of years, and is known for its incredible natural health benefits. I take a tablespoon of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil and swish it around in my mouth for 20 minutes and then spit it out in a trash can. *Don’t send the oil down your drains as it may end up hardening in your pipes!

I know you might be thinking, “20 minutes seems like a realllyyy long time!” But think of this as the perfect opportunity to multitask and get other things done. For example, I do my makeup while I am swishing! You will get used to it and soon the 20 minutes will pass in a flash, I promise!

There are a ton of health benefits linked to this ritual: The oil acts as a powerful cleanser, drawing out the bacteria, fungi, and toxins in your mouth and helps to detoxify the body. I have found that my oil pulling practice has helped with my immunity and dental health. I rarely ever get sick (maybe twice in the past 3+ years!) and my dentist has even noticed a difference in the overall health of my gums and whiteness of my teeth. You could even try adding a few drops of peppermint extract for an extra refreshing taste.

Lemon & Apple Cider Vinegar “Tea”

Next, after brushing my teeth, I make and drink my Lemon & ACV “Tea.” I combine warm water, the juice of half a lemon, and a “shot” of apple cider vinegar (approx. 1 oz). I can’t lie to you and say that it tastes amazing but like with anything else, you get used to it and it becomes another daily healthy habit! I feel so much better about myself knowing that this tea is the first thing I ingest, as opposed to reaching for a cup of coffee!

This is such a simple and natural way to awaken your digestive system. This morning elixir has a host of natural antioxidants and probiotics, helping to kickstart the metabolism, alkalize the body, and set up the gut for the day ahead!
